In 2021, Congress created a standard for military records that changed for all active or reserve component members. As a result, veterans applying for benefits may find the process more challenging than it was previously.

There are currently no request for Record of Military Service (DD214) application preparation courses that are accessible to all veterans or the Veteran Service Officers (VSO) who support them.

This curriculum aims to add to the existing training for DAV VSOs to help motivate veterans to seek opportunities by acquiring a DD214, increase the population of veterans served by DAV Service Officers (SOs), and assist in improving the benefits review process.
